The story of Levin Iglut – Golden Crown begins with a dream under the northern sky. Years ago, Tauno Mäkelä, a visionary with a deep connection to Lapland’s nature, found himself on the slopes of Utsuvaara in Levi. As he stood looking out across the wide-open valley and toward the vast Arctic sky, he knew he had discovered something truly special — a view too breathtaking to keep to himself.

In 2008, the first four luxurious glass igloos were completed at that very spot. These unique accommodations were among the first of their kind in Finnish Lapland: modern, beautifully designed spaces that invited guests to sleep beneath the stars — and perhaps even witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights from the comfort of their own bed. The concept immediately captured hearts, and a family-run business was born.

Growing with Heart

Since those early days, Levin Iglut has grown thoughtfully and with purpose. The original dream of creating something small and special has remained at the core, even as the resort has expanded to include 27 glass igloos, a selection of suites, and the elegant Restaurant Utsu — a culinary experience as unforgettable as the view. All the while, the heart of the business has stayed firmly in the family, with new generations continuing to shape the vision and bring it to life.

Each addition to the resort has been made with care, guided by a respect for nature, local culture, and the guest experience. Every igloo is positioned to take in the best possible views of the sky. Every detail — from the materials and furnishings to the service philosophy — has been chosen to reflect a balance of refined comfort and authentic Lapland atmosphere.

Still a Family Story

Today, Levin Iglut – Golden Crown is still run by the Mäkelä family, who remain deeply involved in the everyday life of the resort. Their commitment to heartfelt, personal service is the soul of the experience, and many returning guests say they feel like they are “coming home” when they arrive at the igloo village.
