Levi Igloos– Golden Crown welcomes guests throughout the Northern Lights season, from late August until early April. During these months, the nights are dark enough for northern lights hunting, and the glow of the midnight sun will not disturb your rest beneath the glass roof of your igloo. While the depths of winter are the most popular time to experience Lapland, Levi offers a wealth of activities and unforgettable moments across the entire aurora season. In summer our doors close, giving us time to prepare for the return of darkness, starry skies and the magic of a new season.
When to visit?
Levin Iglut – Golden Crown welcomes guests throughout the Northern Lights season, from late August until early April. During these months the nights are dark enough for aurora viewing, and the glow of the Midnight Sun will not disturb your rest beneath the glass roof of your igloo. Although midwinter is the most popular time to visit Lapland, Levi offers a wealth of activities and unforgettable experiences across the entire aurora season. In summer our doors close, giving us time to prepare for the return of darkness, star-filled skies and the magic of a new season.
Northern Lights
The Northern Lights season stretches from late August to early April, offering months of opportunity to witness one of nature’s most mesmerising spectacles. The aurora often begins as a delicate green shimmer low on the horizon before slowly gathering strength, flickering, and unfurling across the sky in waves of shifting colour and light. At times the display is gentle and ethereal, at others it bursts into a dramatic dance that sweeps from one side of the horizon to the other.
Even those who have lived in Lapland all their lives still stop to watch in wonder, for each display is unique and never loses its magic. To stand beneath the aurora is to witness a quiet miracle of the Arctic night. An experience that lingers in memory long after the lights have faded from the sky.
Winter Season
The winter season begins in early December, when the first deep snow settles over the fells and creates perfect conditions for classic Arctic adventures such as snowmobiling, husky rides and reindeer safaris. At this time of year, the polar night begins and with it arrive the enchanting blue moments — brief periods when the landscape is bathed in soft twilight tones of indigo and violet, unique to the far north.
Daylight lasts only a few hours, yet the snow reflects and amplifies the light, giving the surroundings a luminous glow. On clear nights the Northern Lights frequently appear, dancing across the sky in vibrant colours. From December through February, the temperatures can fall to their lowest, but the crisp cold only adds to the magic of Lapland’s winter atmosphere.
Autumn Season
The autumn season lasts from late August to November. Early autumn in Lapland brings crisp, clear nights without snow, offering some of the best skies of the year for photographing the aurora borealis. As September progresses, the fells and forests ignite in vibrant shades of gold, red and orange, turning daylight hours into a spectacle equally captivating for photography and outdoor adventures. The fresh autumn air is perfect for hiking along colourful trails, cycling scenic routes, playing golf, horseback riding or paddling across calm waters. By late October the first snow usually falls, and by mid-November a permanent cover settles across the landscape. Many outdoor activities can still be enjoyed well into this early winter period — simply dress warmly. Our team will be delighted to assist with arrangements and bookings so that you can make the most of Levi’s diverse selection of experiences.
